Professor Fox also holds an appointment at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and has worked with leading international organisations responding to infectious diseases, including the World Health Organization and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

His research and clinical expertise have also seen him establish and lead major health interventions in Vietnam, including household screening for TB and lung disease.

Professor Patrick McNeil, Executive Dean of Macquarie University’s Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Science, said Professor Fox was an outstanding addition to the University.

“Macquarie University is committed to improving patients’ lives and outcomes through innovative, research-led and best-practice healthcare,” he said.

“Professor Fox is the embodiment of that mission. He brings an outstanding track record in health leadership, teaching and education, frontline care and cutting-edge research.

“We are thrilled to welcome him to Australia’s most innovative healthcare ecosystem and have no doubt that he will make a profound and lasting contribution as we seek to deliver the very best in clinical discovery, application and care.”

Professor Fox said he was committed to using research to improve health outcomes, particularly among disadvantaged populations.

“I’m passionate about ensuring that the benefits of medical research and innovation reach the people and communities who need them most, including those who experience the greatest health disadvantage,” he said.

“This is why joining an innovative university like Macquarie appeals to me.

“In Australia, Macquarie University is unique; its one-of-a-kind integrated healthcare model brings together world-class research, education and clinical practice to improve health outcomes for individuals and communities all over Australia. The Medical School’s strong international links, including in India, position Macquarie to have lasting global impact.

“I look forward to working with colleagues, students and our health partners to build on Macquarie’s strengths in research and education, strengthen the connection between discovery and clinical practice, and help prepare the next generation of doctors to deliver outstanding care and improve health outcomes for all.”

Professor Fox will commence as Dean of Medicine at Macquarie University on 1 February 2027.
