Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District (CMPID) is entering a new chapter, announcing a refreshed operational focus and leadership structure that cements Macquarie University as the lead custodian of the association.

Following a decade of advocacy wins in transport and connectivity, CMPID will now shift its focus to fostering innovation, research and talent collaboration – leveraging Macquarie University’s role as a world-class hub for knowledge creation, application and transfer.

“This is a natural next step for CMPID,” said General Manager Davor Jozic. “We’ve helped guide Macquarie Park through a major transformation in transport, and with the Sydney Metro now complete, unlocking the full innovation potential of the district.”

Over the past 10 years, CMPID has championed key projects including the StationLink rollout, COVID-19 mobility planning, and the award-winning ‘Get Ready for Metro, Macquarie Park’ campaign. These efforts contributed to a significant shift in commuting habits, with the drive-alone rate among employees dropping from 66 per cent in 2014 to 47 per cent in 2024.

Now home to over 63,000 workers, 44,000 students from more than 110 countries, and an economic impact of $13.6 billion annually, Macquarie Park is poised for its next evolution. NSW Government growth plans aim to increase the local population by 10,000 and grow jobs in the district to 100,000.

With the completion of major transport infrastructure, CMPID’s refreshed mission will centre on creating high-impact collaborations between industry, startups, researchers and students. This shift is supported by the recent CMPID–Hadron Group report ‘Connectivity for Tomorrow’, which outlines a bold vision for future transport innovation, including a Metro expansion to St Marys and rapid bus networks.

As part of the transition, Jozic will step down as General Manager on 1 September 2025.

Stirling Wright, Macquarie University’s MPID Partnerships and Engagement Manager, will assume the role of CMPID General Manager on a part-time basis.

Additionally, Dr Rob Stokes will step down as Chair to focus on his new role at Anglicare. He will be succeeded by Professor Dan Johnson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Enterprise) at Macquarie University.

“As a champion of urban governance and collaboration with industry, I'd like to recognise Connect MPID’s achievements in helping to shift the transport mode to public transport,” said Dr Stokes. “Macquarie University is well placed to steer the association into its next evolution.”

Significant investment is already underway across the district including:

  • Stockland’s new MPark development, which includes over 38,000 square metres of commercial space for up to 3600 workers, and will be home to Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Audika, CHEP, WiSE, AXIS Communications and others
  • a $96 million RNA Pilot and Manufacturing Facility, currently under construction on Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal Campus
  • Macquarie University developments including a new multi-disciplinary building for engineering, astronomy and Australian Astronomical Optics (AAO), and the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research
  • Macquarie Park Bus Depot – the first purpose-built battery electric bus depot for 165 electric buses servicing suburbs in Sydney's Northwest and North Shore
  • Macquarie Park Bus Interchange – a $200-million project to improve bus interchange between Macquarie Centre and the University with new public space.
