Professor Neil Saintilan has been recognised by the Australian Academy of Science for his world-leading contributions to earth science, winning the 2026 Mawson Medal.

A global leader in coastal wetland research, Professor Saintilan’s research has shifted the understanding of how these ecosystems respond to sea-level rise.

"I'm deeply honoured to receive this award," Professor Saintilan said. "Coastal wetlands are critical to how we respond to climate change, and I hope this recognition helps reinforce the importance of protecting and restoring these ecosystems, not just in Australia but worldwide.”
