The works of Sandra Leveson will be featured in a new exhibition, Sandra Leveson: Paintings of Poise and Passion at Macquarie University’s Art Gallery.

Guests will experience the complex technical and formalised elements of op art with the Ben-Day dot process of pop art and the lyrical fluidity of abstract expressionism.

The works presented are optical illusions of shape, surface texture and hue that shimmer, contort, and change the viewer’s perception.

Principally created during the 1970s, what immediately impacts upon the viewer is the ‘freshness’ of Leveson’s works.

For the Art Gallery co-curators Kate Hargraves and Leonard Janiszewski: ‘The artist’s magic is not in following trends, but in cleverly finding her own expressive path during the 1960s and 1970s that resulted in a creative fusion of modernist aesthetic, thinking and technique’.
